Regina cops charge three in big drug bust valued at more than $1M

Three people have been charged after a drug bust involving “significant” amounts of substances believed to be fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine.

Following an investigation into drug trafficking in the city, the Regina Drug Unit and Regina Police Service SWAT team “conducted enforcement” on several suspects on May 30, stated an RPS news release issued Tuesday.

Early that afternoon, three suspects were arrested, two of which were located on the 100 block of Froom Crescent where police found “significant quantities of substances,” noted the release.

A search netted four kilograms of what police believe is fentanyl, over two kilograms of what’s believed to be cocaine, and six-and-a-half kilograms of what’s thought to be methamphetamine. Along with the substances, police seized more than $29,000 in cash.

Another search was executed on the 500 block of University Park Drive, where police found what they believe to be a half-kilogram of fentanyl, just under 100 grams of cocaine and a half-kilogram of methamphetamine. In addition, police found more than $5,000 in cash at that location, according to the release.

“Four and a half kilograms of Fentanyl is significant, as extremely small quantities of this drug can be lethal,” the release states. “The estimated street value of all of the seized drugs is believed to be well over one million dollars.”

The three people charged — aged 23, 20 and 19 — all face charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime.

All were scheduled to make their first appearance in provincial court Friday.
