Cityline to broadcast its last show Friday after 40 years on the air

The talk show and lifestyle program Cityline turned 40 this year. It’s also ending this Friday.

The news was shared Tuesday in an Instagram post by Tracy Moore, who has been the host of the show since 2008.

“Take a look around,” she says in the video. “The world is changing at a fast clip … For the last decade the focus has shifted to new ways that viewers consume content, with phones in hand and an endless list of streaming providers. Our habits have changed. TV is seeing a major evolution.”

She continued: “So I’m sharing that this week’s celebratory episodes are a final sendoff to Cityline and its remarkable 40 years on Canadian television.”

Moore said the process has been difficult. “Am I a little heartbroken? Absolutely. Am I excited for what we can make next? Yes I am.”

She revealed that Citytv will be launching a new one-hour national live lifestyle show “that will be an expansion of the Breakfast Television brand.” It will air in the same time slot as the current show, weekdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., beginning in September.

Cityline debuted in February of 1984 with Dini Petty as host. Pierre Trudeau was Prime Minister, Ronald Reagan was in the White House, and the top-rated TV programs were Dallas, Dynasty and The Cosby Show.

Marilyn Denis took over as host from 1989 to 2008, and this week made an appearance on the show to discuss its history with Moore. “Marilyn and I were never competing against each other,” Moore said of her predecessor, adding: “I’m very grateful to have the chance to keep evolving with Citytv.”
