Meewasin’s annual Birding Breakfast series starts this weekend at Beaver Creek Conservation Area. There are plenty of local activities to explore and support in town as well.

1 — Get out to a book launch

McNally Robinson hosts a launch event for Saskatoon author Joanne Jackson‘s third novel, Sunset Lake Resort. When Ruby’s father dies and doesn’t leave the inheritance they were expecting, her husband of 35 years moves out. On her own, Ruby investigates the remote beach cabin her father left to her instead of his estate, determined to learn why he bought it. 2 — Knit with friends

The annual World Wide Knit in Public Day is Saturday. Celebrate the enjoyment of knitting in the company of knitters of all ages and experience levels. Other crafts are also welcome, including crochet, needlepoint and embroidery. 3 — Take in an Indigenous film festival

The annual Ācimowin Film Festival is Saskatoon’s Indigenous film festival. The four-day event highlights Indigenous artists and narratives and fosters language revitalization, while empowering youth through year-round film programming. 4 — Enjoy a local concert band

Saskatoon Concert Band Auxiliary presents its spring concert, On With the Show. The evening features Irish and Norwegian music and a taste of Broadway with songs from How to Train Your Dragon and Avatar. 5 — Explore the children’s festival

The Children’s Festival of Saskatchewan has returned to Kinsmen Park. The arts-based festival features live music, theatre and roving performances alongside a variety of activities for all ages that include a fossil find, circus arts, a petting zoo, storytelling, educational activities and games.
