Saskatoon police arrest man who accidentally shot himself

Saskatoon city police had a busy Saturday responding to gun crimes — including some unusual situations.

On Saturday morning, police say they were called about an injured person near the intersection of 22nd Street and Avenue F South in Riversdale.

“The call stated a man had accidentally shot himself,” police said in a Monday news release.

When officers arrived, they found the injured man surrounded by a gun and “multiple knives,” along with ammunition, meth, hydromorphone and fentanyl.

The 43-year-old was taken to the hospital, where he is recovering from what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.

He faces “numerous weapons-related charges, possession of instruments suitable for breaking and entering, and possession of a controlled substance,” the release said.

Later that day, officers were called to a home in the King George neighbourhood after a woman said someone fired a gun into her house.

“The caller … explained she was sitting in her living room when she heard a pop and saw a bullet hole through the window,” the release said.

They continue to investigate, and ask anyone with information about the gunshots fired around the 100 block of Avenue P South shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday to call them.

Finally, on Saturday night, residents in Pleasant Hill called police to report that a man with a gun was knocking on doors.

The person had driven away before officers got there, but they soon found a vehicle matching its description at a business nearby and arrested a 17-year-old boy, the release said.

Officers found an air pistol and a hatchet inside the vehicle, and charged the teen with multiple counts related to possession of a weapon and failure to comply with court-ordered conditions.
