Three charged with Regina convenience store robberies

Regina Police Service (RPS) has charged three youths with a series of convenience store robberies in the city that date back to December 2022.

RPS said in a news release on April 12 that a 16 year-old male youth was arrested and charged on March 14, a 15 year-old male youth was arrested and charged on March 19, and an 18 year-old male was arrested and charged on April 11. All three cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act — the 18 year-old was a youth at the time of the offence.

Two have already appeared in court in Regina — the 18 year-old faces charges of robbery, wearing a disguise and use of an imitation firearm and appeared on April 12; and the 15 year-old, who is facing charges of robbery and wearing a disguise, appeared in court on March 20.

The 16-year-old faces charges of robbery, wearing a disguise and use of an imitation firearm and is scheduled to appear in court on April 29.

Police said the charges stem from four Regina robberies — on Dec. 10 2022, Dec. 12, 2022, Feb. 24, 2023 and June 29, 2023.

In the Dec. 10, 2022 incident at a convenience store the 200 block of Winnipeg Street, police said the offender was carrying a knife and demanded money and took merchandise.

On Dec. 12, 2022, police were called to a convenience store on the 400 block of North Broad Street for an incident in which police said there was a robbery by two people, one of whom had a firearm.

RPS attended a third incident at a convenience store in the 5500 block of 7th Avenue on Feb. 24, 2023, where police said three males entered the store demanding money, and one of them holding a firearm.

Polce said the fourth incident was at a convenience store on the 100 block of Albert Street on June 29, 2023, where three males entered the store.
